Bo Derek basically took over from Raquel Welch as her generations top Hollywood Sex Symbol after launching on the scene in the brilliant “10”.

Bo Derek sadly didn’t have the acting ability of Raquel and she was in some incredibly poor movies, her beauty meant she got away with Tarzan but Bolero was a step too far for even her most ardent supporters.

She did however remain popular enough to be a poster girl just like Raquel was and continued to make films. She never quite reached the level of fame Raquel had reached in the 70’s but she was still the 80’s main sex symbol.

Keira Knightley is one of the most beautiful women in the world, of course the classic era for the female “Sex Symbol” in Hollywood was the 50’s,60’s and 70’s with Marilyn, Brigitte and Raquel among others but there’s no doubt that if Keira Knightley had been around then she would have been included.

Keira Knightley has those stunning good looks, eyes that can melt ice and a smile that can do the same, she’s also of course an amazingly talented actress, a fact that sadly goes unnoticed sometimes as it often does in Hollywood when an actress is so beautiful. “Keira Knightley was born in the South London suburb of Richmond on March 26th 1985. She is the daughter of actor Will Knightley and actress turned playwright Sharman Macdonald. Melinda Messenger had probably the shortest career in Page 3 for someone who was such a favourite with the masses.

Melinda Messenger was only a Page 3 Girl for 6 months before stopping topless modelling but what a stir she caused before moving into TV with Fort Boyard and of course can still be seen on Channel 5.

Audrey Hepburn is simply stunning, one male lead acting with her once said that in mid scene she flashed a smile (in character) and he forgot his lines totally. Not hard to see why when you look at her face.

Elizabeth Taylor was one of the most beautiful women in the world and unusually for that period she did get the accolades for being the great actress she was. In those days in Hollywood the beautiful women didn’t really get talked about for their acting. Elizabeth Taylor did, Audrey Hepburn is another who did.

“Elizabeth Taylor was born in London, England, on February 27, 1932. Although she was born an English subject, her parents were Americans, art dealers from St. Louis, Missouri (her father had gone to London to set up a gallery). Her mother had been an actress on the stage, but gave up that vocation when she married. Elizabeth lived in London until the age of seven, when the family left for the US when the clouds of war began brewing in Europe in 1939. They sailed without her father, who stayed behind to wrap up the loose ends of the art business.

Raquel Welch quickly became the world’s obession , a body and face to die for and rather like Marilyn Monroe she was a better actress than ever given credit for. Also rather like in the 50’s with Marilyn and Brigitte there was a battle of the sex symbols in the 70’s as well with the Italian beauty Sophia Loren. Of course sensible people didn’t argue and just had both their posters on their walls.

Raquel Welch probably adorned over 75% of the bedroom walls in the world during most of the 60’s and 70’s, it wasn’t just teenage lads who had her posters on their walls, girls admired her too. Raquel is probably most famous for the outfit in “One Million Years BC” but it was her scene in a yellow bikini in “Fathom” that captured my early attention. Providing minor but sexy set decoration on the small screen (“Bewitched” (1964), “McHale’s Navy” (1962) and “The Virginian” (1962)) as well as the large (Elvis Presley’s Roustabout (1964) and Doris Day’s Do Not Disturb (1965)). Caught in the midst of the “beach party” craze, it’s not surprising to find out that her first prime film role was A Swingin’ Summer (1965), which concentrated more on musical guests The Righteous Brothers and Gary Lewis & The Playboys than on Raquel Welch’s outstanding contributions. But 20th Century Fox certainly took notice and signed her up.

With her very first film under contract (actually, she was on loan out to Britain’s Hammer Studios at the time), she took on the remake of The Cave Dwellers (1940) in the Carole Landis role and the rest is history. Raquel Welch remained an international celebrity in her first few years of stardom. In England, she was quite revealing as the deadly sin representing “lust” for the comedy team of Peter Cook and Dudley Moore in their vehicle Bedazzled (1967), and as the title secret agent in the sexy spy spoof Fathom (1967). In Italy, she gained some exposure in primarily mediocre vehicles opposite such heartthrobs as Marcello Mastroianni. Back in the U.S., however, she caused quite a stir in her ground-breaking sex scenes with black athlete Jim Brown in the “spaghetti western” 100 Rifles (1969), and as the transgendered title role in the unfathomable Myra Breckinridge (1970). Adapted from Gore Vidal novel, she created some unwelcome notoriety by locking horns with aging diva Mae West on the set. The instant cult movie was a laughingstock to all concerned and certainly didn’t help Raquel’s attempt at being taking seriously as an actress.

Box office bombs abounded. Try as she might in such films as Kansas City Bomber (1972) and The Wild Party (1975), which drew some good reviews for her, her sexy typecast gave her little room to breathe. With determination, however, she partly offset this with modest supporting roles in larger ensemble pieces. She showed definite spark and won a Golden Globe for the swashbuckler The Three Musketeers (1973), and appeared to good advantage in the mystery thriller The Last of Sheila (1973). She planned on making a comeback in Cannery Row (1982), even agreeing to appear topless (which she had never done before), but was suddenly fired during production without notice. She sued MGM for breach of contract and ultimately won a $15 million settlement, but it didn’t help her film career and only helped to label her as trouble on a set. TV movies became a positive milieu for Raquel Welch as she developed sound vehicles for herself such as The Legend of Walks Far Woman (1982) (TV) and Right to Die (1987) (TV). She also found a lucrative avenue pitching beauty products in infomercials and developing exercise videos à la Jane Fonda.

Raquel Welch took advantage of her modest singing and dancing abilities by performing in splashy Las Vegas showrooms and starring in such plausible stage vehicles as “Woman of the Year” and “Victor/Victoria.” Still a dazzler broaching age 70, Raquel continues to show up here and there and still can turn heads. She has even spoofed her own diva image on occasion, most memorably on “Seinfeld”. More recently she has co-starred in the Hispanic-oriented TV series “American Family” (2002) and in the short-lived comedy “Welcome to the Captain” (2008), and appeared in the movies Tortilla Soup (2001), Legally Blonde (2001) and Forget About It (2006). She is separated from her fourth husband Richard Palmer, who is 15 years her junior.”

“One of the leading sex symbols of the 1950s and 1960s, movie and B movie actress, Jayne Mansfield was born on April 19, 1933 in Bryn Mawr, Pennsylvania, and she was a talented pianist and violin player as a child. She moved to Dallas, Texas, after the death of her father at age three and the family bought a little home where she had violin concerts in the driveway of their home. Amazingly, her I.Q. was reported to be a 163 and she attended the University of Dallas and participated in little-theatre productions. In 1949, at age 16, she married a man five years her senior named Paul , the next year when Jayne Mansfield was 17, the two had a child named Jayne Marie Mansfield. The damage to the car was so bad that the engine was twisted sideways. Rumors began that Mansfield was decapitated began when the photographers and police found her platinum blonde wig on the dashboard of the car and they saw that and just took of with that which is highly untrue as her first child Jayne Marie Mansfield claims and it was a false report. Mansfield’s funeral was on July 3, 1967 which was a small ceremony which her family, first child, and second husband Mickey Hargitay attended the same place in Pen Argyl, Pennsylvania where her father was buried. Brigitte Bardot in another of the ultimate sex symbols from the 50’s, an absolute beauty who being from France was free to be more overtly sexual than the American sex symbols but even then she managed to cause some controversy. Especially when her popularity reached America and the rest of the world.

Brigitte Bardot really was pure beauty, everything Marilyn was doing to the men in America and Britain, Brigitte Bardot was doing to the rest of Europe (And Britain as well) simply one of the most beautiful to ever live and in later life she dovoted her life to the welfare of animals.
